Apprenticeship, Internship & Volunteer Opportunities, Yucatán
At Planet Healers, we welcome dedicated individuals to our 39-hectare tropical forest restoration site near Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Our opportunities emphasize transformative skill-building in ecosystem restoration, biochar innovation, permaculture, and sustainable living.
Programs operate during the cool season (October–March) for comfortable fieldwork, focusing on biodiversity recovery, soil regeneration, and nature-based solutions such as greywater systems, solar energy, and agroforestry. Participants dedicate 25–35 hours/week to impactful projects (e.g., tropical forest restoration, biochar production using low-cost methods, native plant propagation, invasive species control) under the expert guidance of Paul Morris (a CERP-certified restoration ecologist with 30+ years of experience) and Sophia Ortiz (an agronomist).
Perks include shared rustic cabins, three nutritious meals/day from our gardens and local sources (featuring Mexican-inspired cuisine with fresh produce, eggs, and sustainable proteins), access to eco-facilities (composting toilets, solar showers, natural cenotes for swimming), Wi-Fi/study areas, and downtime for exploring Yucatán's archaeological sites, beaches, and wildlife.
We prioritize personal development, ecological leadership, and community bonds—equipping you to launch your own regenerative initiatives.
The organization does not provide visa support (a tourist visa is typically 6 months)
We consider prior experience optional, but we value passion for ecosystem restoration, adaptability to rural off-grid living, and interest in the Spanish language.
Programs offer potential for academic credit, research collaborations (e.g., thesis projects with universities; we've mentored three, over 100 interns, and hundreds in our Fundamentals of Ecosystem Restoration Course), and certifications tied to our Soil Food Web School and Ecosystem Restoration Communities partnerships.
